Lesson 21 – Negative Sentences in Indonesian Language

In this page, we will discuss how to say “no” or “not” in Indonesian language. We can use “tidak” or “bukan” to negate the sentences.


“Tidak” is used before a verb, an adjective, or a prepositional phrase. Examples:

  • Bapak saya tidak merokok.
  • Ibu saya tidak tinggi.
  • Adik laki-laki saya tidak di rumah.


“Bukan” is used before a noun. Examples:

  • Sepupu saya bukan orang Indonesia.
  • Rumah itu bukan rumah kami.
